Scotland has an entirely different system of land ownership to the rest of the UK. This has undergone major reform in recent years with the abolition of feudal tenure.
IRPM members in Scotland are involved in all aspects of the management of heritable property. Property Managers or Factors typically manage tenements and estates where some of the property is owned in common.
Communities Scotland publish a very useful guide to this subject entitled; “Common repair, common sense (a homeowner’s guide to the management and maintenance of common property)”. This is available here.
The Property Managers Association Scotland Limited
The Property Managers Association Scotland Limited (PMAS) is one of the IRPM’s sponsors. They can trace their history back to 1867 when incorporated as the Association of House Factors and Property Agents.
The PMAS exists to promote the interests of Property Managers in Scotland and high standards of Property Management. Their objectives, which are also fully supported by the IRPM, include:
