Setting Standards

1. Introduction

1.1 IRPM is a professional Institute the objective of which is to promote and stimulate improvements to the technical and general knowledge of individuals engaged in residential property management. In so doing it aims to achieve high standards of practice and professionalism, through Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and to require its members to operate to a Code of Conduct (the Code) which maintains their responsibility to their clients and to society in general.

This Code is not intended to be a comprehensive statement but rather an introduction to the principles to which IRPM members are expected to adhere.

1.2 Compliance with the Code shall be a requirement of membership for all classes of IRPM that the Institute shall choose to offer to existing and prospective members.

1.3 It will be a condition of membership of IRPM that all members undertake to be bound by the Code and the standard of conduct implicit in the Constitution and Rules of the Institute.

2. Rules of professional conduct

2.1 No person in membership of the Institute (in whatever classification) shall conduct himself in a manner that would bring IRPM or its membership into disrepute.

2.2 No person in membership shall associate himself with any occupation or business which would, in the opinion of the IRPM Board of Governors, result in the reputation of the Institute being called into question.

2.3 All persons in membership of the Institute shall undertake not to seek business by any practice that involves the use of deceit, subterfuge, misleading or defamatory material.

3. Compliance

3.1 Members are granted the right to display, against their own name, a designation of IRPM membership according to their experience and qualification. It is an indication of their professional standing and shall not be used to obtain personal gain nor to promote the products or services of their company. The designatory letters must never be used in conjunction with the member's business other than against their individual name on any printed material e.g. business cards and letterheads.

3.2 Members shall, whenever possible, promote and support the activities of the Institute and encourage suitable candidates to apply for membership.

3.3 Members in the conduct of their business shall encourage their own professional development and that of their staff, through the promotion of education and training.

3.4 Members shall not use the title or logo of the Institute in any public statement or publicity without prior approval from the Institute in writing.
