An IRPM member's CPD Profile


Below is a profile of Miss RD, a Senior Property Manager in York who has been logging her CPD throughout 2010 on her record card - now replaced by the online logging function (see How do I log my CPD?).

Miss RD heads up a team of property managers at a firm of managing agents and she manages a portfolio herself. She has recently passed her IRPM Part 2 exam and is looking at earning the AssocRICS qualification. Eventually, RD wants to become a Chartered Surveyor. RD set herself some objective for the year:

  • To start a building surveying degree
  • To pass her IRPM Part 2 examination and encourage colleagues to do the same.
  • To work more closely with the chartered building surveyor at the company.
  • To be able to communicate better with the Italian community in York.

5 March 2010 Attended a seminar on Construction (Design & Management) 2007 regulations by Goddards Consulting. The CDM is very important to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of workers, residents and the general public. Even 'smaller' projects may need to comply with the CDM regs, to take care!

1 hour CDM compliance is very important. The HSE would take a dim view of projects that were notifiable but weren't.

6-7 March 2010 Brethertons revision workshop for Part 2 IRPM exam. Examination technique, types of questions asked, practice questions, Q&A with solicitors and barristers.

12 hours Aside from being excellent preparation for the April exam, I am better equipped to deal with more complicated issues.

21 April 2010 IRPM Part 2 Exam How to plan my time effectively to achieve the highest possible mark.

3 hours Passing my IRPM part 2 with flying colours has given me renewed confidence when advising clients and my junior colleagues.

26 May 2010 Attend in-house training session on the digital TV switchover, given by a TV aerial specialist. As most of my buildings have communal aerials and that the leases prescribe tha the landlord needs to supply a communal tv signal to the occupiers, it is imperative that these aerials are digital compliant come autumn 2010 .
Hours How Will This Benefit Me In The Future?
 1.5 hours By planning ahead, I will be able to save my clients/leaseholders money, as there will inevitably be an influx of requests to aerial companies from managing agents in the weeks before the analogue switch-off.

6 Sept 2010 Attended in-house training seminar on the ins and outs of engineering insurance. The difference between inspection cover and insurance cover, and the importance of both when the client's building has lifts and communal boilers.

1.5 hours I am now better armed to advise our clients with plant in their building.

30 Sept 2010 Attended the IRPM AGM It was my first IRPM AGM. It has encouraged me to take more of an active interest in the Institute.
