There are 4 grades of membership of the Institute: (refer to the criteria for grades of membership) Affiliate, Associate, Member and Fellow 

Joining fees

There is a non-refundable application fee of £50 for all grades of membership.

NB. For applications made in the second half of our financial year (September-March), 50% of the annual subscription is payable.

Alternative Qualifications

If you have an alternative qualification not listed here which you think will be relevant to the Sector please contact the institute for further advice. The irpm reserves the right to alter or amend these as deemed appropriate.

Alternative Qualification Group A

Fellow or Member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS / MRICS)

AssocRICS in Residential Management

Fellow or Member of Chartered Institute of Housing (FCIH / MCIH)

British Institute of Facilities Management - CBIFM i.e. Qualified Member

Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA / ACA)

Member of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants - (FCCA / ACCA)

Member of The Law Society

Member of the Bar Council

Fellow or Member of ARLA/NAEA who has also passed the  NFoPP Diploma in Residential Estate Agency. Residential Lettings or equivalent

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) 

 

Alternative Qualification Group B

Member of The British Institute of Facilities Management (MBIFM) i.e. non-qualified member

Chartered Member of The Royal Institute of British Architects - RIBA

Member of The Institution of Civil Engineers - (MICE)

Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (F.Inst.L.Ex)

Fellow of the Institute of Accounting Technicians (FMAAT)

Member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (MATT)

AssocRICS in route other than Residential Management

Housing Practitioner Cert CIH – Holding a recognised housing qualification at level 3

Associate of the Chartered Institute of Housing

Member of ARLA/NAEA

Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development

Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (MinstLM)

 

Members of professional bodies in Group A will be considered for membership at Member level subject to satisfactory evidence of 3 years supervised experience related to residential property management. This will initially be assessed by way of CV but applicants may additionally be invited to attend an interview with Governors and / or Fellows of the IRPM.

Members of professional bodies in Groups A or B will be considered for membership at Associate level subject to satisfactory evidence of 1 years supervised experience related to residential property management. This will initially be assessed by way of CV but applicants may additionally be invited to attend an interview with Governors and / or Fellows of the IRPM.

Members of professional bodies in Groups A or B may be offered the opportunity to take the Direct Entry to Part II route (below).

 

Direct Entry

 This option may be offered to:

  • Members of professional bodies in Groups A or B of the IRPM’s Alternative Qualification Groups who have, or are gaining, relevant supervised experience in residential property management or
  • Affiliate Members of IRPM who have obtained appropriate Graduate or Post – graduate qualifications who have, or are gaining, relevant supervised experience in residential property management.
  • Professionals within the residential property management sector who can demonstrate significant relevant experience but who do not meet the above mentioned qualification or professional membership criteria

Applications will be considered on merit by the IRPM Governors. Examples of qualifications considered appropriate include degrees and diplomas recognised as fully cognate by other Institutions such as RICS or CIH.

Details of the scheme:

Membership will be offered at Affiliate level

Those with suitable academic or professional qualifications and with (or gaining) relevant experience to be offered the opportunity of taking the Part II exam without first having taken the Part I exam.

If successful the candidate will be offered membership at Member level upon satisfactorily demonstrating that they meet the 3 years experience requirements.

If successful the candidate will be offered membership at Associate level until such time as they satisfactorily demonstrate that they meet the 3 years experience requirements

Only one direct sitting of the Part II exam is allowed

All unsuccessful candidates will remain membership at Affiliate level and will need to successfully complete the Part I exam to progress along the normal membership route.
