Recently the Building Safety Programme has published new information that you may find relevant.

• The first of which is a flowchart and information note which has been produced by the Independent Expert Advisory Panel and Industry Response Group  to assist owners of high rise buildings in assessing the measures they should consider to make their buildings safe and guide them through the process of remediation. This builds on the consolidated advice issued on 5 September after completion of the large scale tests.

Note that the information note is now focussing on the ongoing management of the building as well as the construction aspect.  Advice is also given on buildings of less than 18m/6 storeys.

• Following the Secretary of State’s announcement on 5 September that the Independent Expert Advisory Panel’s remit would be extended to cover broader building safety issues, the expert panel’s terms of reference has been updated. In addition, Ann Bentley MBA MICE FRICS, Global Director of Rider Levett Bucknall, has been appointed to the panel from November 2017.

• Finally, the Independent Expert Advisory Panel have worked with DCLG to produce two advice notes on broader building safety issues: 
  • The first of which is what building owners should do to seek advice, assess and mitigate potential risks if they are concerned about the fire safety of external wall systems that do not incorporate ACM systems.
  • The second is how building owners with External Wall Insulation systems with a render or brick slip finish should assess the risk and the importance of their appropriate design, installation and maintenance. This advice has also been developed with the Standing Committee on Structural Safety.
