How did you get into Property Management? The response I get more often than not is “by accident”. I am sure that a number of you reading this will be the same. Perhaps you started out with a completely different objective but having got a taste of the property management world you decided to stay. I have to say that I cannot blame you.
I am one of the many accidental Property Managers. After moving to Bournemouth from Scotland I started the dreaded job search and found a temporary role as PA to the Director of a Property Management firm. The initial contract was for 6 months but I was soon bitten by the bug and 9 years later, having passed my IRPM exams, I am still enjoying Property Management and working towards membership of the RICS. I am actively involved in the IRPM and am a member of the Web/IT and Marketing Working Group.
Property Management is a challenging and varied sector in which to work and I strongly believe that we need to be actively encouraging new talent into the sector at school leaver and university level. I have written an article, which I hope could be used to help encourage this new talent, and this is available on the IRPM website here. Any input and ideas from other members who have similar views and ideas which could be used and developed would be very welcome.
